What is BiGchar™?

BiGchar is the trademark for the biochar product made using our BiGchar technology.

BiGchar units can be offered in mobile, relocatable or fixed configurations so that the end user can optimise the trade-off between transport costs for the raw materials and products

Most waste biomass materials have a low density. This often makes it uneconomical and and unsuitable to transport it for long distances to a fixed processing plant. BiG's mobile pyrolysis equipment allows the user to go to the biomass source rather than transport large volumes of material.

The pictures below give you some idea of the reduction in volume achieved when crop waste was converted to biochar on-site by a mobile processing plant. The reduction in volume is typically 70%, but can be as much as 95%.

The pictures above illustrate the volume of crop waste collected from 10 square meters of farm land and the much smaller volume of the char generated from it.

BiGchar is an environmentally friendly soil improver with great benefits which are considered to include:

  • Increasing carbon levels in soil (with carbon sequestration benefits)
  • Increasing water retention of soil
  • Improving retention of soluble fertilisers (mobile micronutrients)
  • Reducing damaging nutrient run-off to waterways and the ocean
  • Improving the microbiology of the soil
  • Improving soil conditions for earthworms
  • Adjusting soil pH

To keep our BiGchar economical and environmentally friendly

  • we produce our biochar locally and solely from renewable Australian resources
  • we do not endorse the import or export of biochar biochar between nations
  • we minimize our carbon footprint because we do not transport large volumes of green waste for long distances
